Saturday, January 7th we will be collecting new and gently used toys for children in need for our 3rd Annual Toy Drive.
The purpose of this toy drive is to remind children of the Santa Barbara community the principle of giving.

SUMMER FOR KIDS HELPS THOSE IN NEED WITH A SHOE DRIVE TO BENEFIT SOLES4SOULS® INC, THE SHOE CHARITY,
AT SUMMER FOR KIDS STARTING Sat, OCTOBER 1st , 2011
Santa Barbara County residents are invited to recycle their 'gently worn' shoes in an effort to help distribute shoes to people in need
Santa Barbara, CA – September 20, 2011 – Soles4Souls Inc. has committed to collect and distribute shoes to people living in extreme poverty and recovering from natural disasters. The shoe charity provides one pair of shoes to a person in need every 7 seconds. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 15 million pairs of shoes because of the generosity and commitment of people and organizations like Summer for Kids.
Soles4Souls believes partners like Summer for Kids will challenge others to become a force of change by helping the charity cater to the evolving needs of the global community. The shoe charity recognizes its success is the result of individuals and industry partners such as Summer for Kids who clean out closets and warehouses so that individuals around the world can have a better life through American’s excess.
Soles4Souls and Summer for Kids will be collecting your new or gently worn footwear and/or donations to make a tangible difference through the gift of shoes. Every donation will support the charity’s initiative to distribute shoes to those in need.
“With tragedies such as the earthquakes in countries like Haiti and Japan, on top of the enormous needs elsewhere, we can use the estimated 1.5 billion shoes taking up space in the closets of ordinary people to change the world one pair at a time,” said Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls, Wayne Elsey.
Elsey added, “We need partners like Summer for Kids to get behind Soles4Souls. Donating shoes is one of the most simple yet profound acts you can do, because it will greatly improve someone’s life in the most difficult of times.”
To celebrate the 3rd anniversary of their store’s opening, Summer For Kids is hosting a Soles4Souls shoe drive to benefit children in need, on October 3, 2011 at their store location:
1235 Coast Village Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93108

Celebrating First Year Anniversary!
Surviving The Recession
Eco-friendly Children’s Store in Montecito Hits One Year Anniversary Mark
First Week of October Dedicated to Helping The Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation
Montecito, Calif. – When local residents Adriana and Mark Shuman turned their passion for children and the earth into a fun, colorful environment that sells only “safe”, environmentally sound products, they had no idea that they were starting a business at the beginning of one of the toughest economic years in American history.
Now, a year later, their store “ Summer For Kids ”, located at 1235 Coast Village Road, is bustling with activity (you can often find children playing in the play corner of the store while their parents and grandparents shop) and they are celebrating their first anniversary by dedicating the first week of October – October 3-9 -- to The Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation.
“We’ve been very fortunate,” Mrs. Shuman explained. “I believe we’ve filled an important niche by being the only store in Santa Barbara County that carries only safe products for children ages 0-6 years old … year-round organic clothes; toys, bath, sleeping and feeding products free of toxins; and other items that are safe for both the environment and for kids. We also try to support the American economy by carrying as many vendors as possible from the USA. Now I want to give back in gratitude by raising awareness for The Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation.”
To that end, from October 3-9 the store will offer 1 0% off all merchandise to anyone who brings “gently used” items into the store for The Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation (safe toys, clothes, strollers, other children’s articles, or cash -- anything that can help the cause). To thank their customers, they will also raffle off a Plan Toys play table to anyone who spends $50.00 or more during that week. (The table is worth more than $400.00.)
Summer for Kids does more than sell consumer goods. Their mission from the start has been to improve the lives of children. So they also provide education to parents and grandparents about product safety through emails and an ongoing blog that covers topics like sunscreen safety, lead, plastics and more. (Lead paint from China, pesticides and chemical additives that can make their way into babies’ and toddlers’ mouths remain an ongoing concern for parents across the US.) Summer for Kids also regularly supports local children’s charities. To register for their ongoing free educational opportunities, go to www.summerforkids.com.

Child Safety Day 2009
Local Children’s Store, Summer for Kids, Honors National Missing Children’s Day
Montecito, CA, April 1st, 2009 - According to Child Find of America, 2300 children are reported missing every day in America. In 1983, Ronald Reagan proclaimed May 25 National Missing Children’s Day to serve as a reminder to parents and guardians of the need for finger printing and high-quality photographs of their children for use in case of an emergency.
From May 23 – May 25, in honor of this day, Summer for Kids owner Adriana Shuman and staff, invite parents and children to join in preventing and being prepared for an emergency situation. Summer for Kids will be providing complimentary Child Identification Kits that store fingerprints, photo, medical and dental records, DNA, and more.
Officer Clacking from the Santa Barbara City Police Department will be giving a presentation on preventing child abduction and how to talk to your children about how to protect themselves in adverse situations.
For the entire weekend you will receive 10% off of all purchases & that 10% will go directly to Villa Majella of Santa Barbara, a non profit organization, that provides guidance and support to women who want to carry their babies to term but face overwhelming challenges such as homelessness and substance abuse. Any maternity or children’s clothing and diapers donated in the store will go to support these efforts. ***With any purchase made, you will be entered into a drawing to win prizes from Plan Toys and Hape.
Additionally, Summer for Kids will be hosting kids’ competitions throughout the day for all ages and skill levels, babies and up! Everyone will be a winner, with prizes provided by Haba and Summer for Kids. And, if that weren’t enough, Trattoria Mollie of Montecito is providing tasty treats for all. So, please come and join Summer for Kids located at 1235 Coast Village Drive, Suite C, Montecito, 93108 on Memorial day weekend starting May 23rd and help in the fight to protect and educate our children.
